The brand: Simone Rocha
The history: Since winning the Emerging Designer Award from the British Fashion Council in 2013, Simone Rocha has been on the fast track to VIP style status. The label’s instantly recognizable lace, silk and tulle dresses are works of art in their own right, while their fuzzy shoes and purses have gained a cult following among clothing fiends worldwide.
The designer: This Dublin native began her career at Central St. Martin’s college of fashion, and showed her first collection in 2010. The daughter of British fashion icon John Rocha, Simone also designs furniture and curates art. She turned 31 last week.
The show: Rocha held her show at the Temple Church in London, which was built in the 1200s and features prominently in The Da Vinci Code. (It’s also where Shakespeare’s first known performance of Twelfth Night happened, way back in 1602.) As doo-wop tunes blared through the speakers, puff pastry dresses in white lace, black satin and orange-and-pink floral prints floated down the runway. Models wore multiple colored barrettes in their hair, a nod to the well-loved Victorian dolls that she said inspired her collection.
The f-row: The royal showing included Lady Tallulah Harlech, Princess Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis, and Rocha’s father John, who holds a CBE (Companion of the British Empire) for his outstanding contributions in the arts.
The verdict: If every day were as dreamy as these dresses, world peace (and lots of gauzy floral patterns) would be inevitable.
