While the main event is definitely and always on the runway, some shows give such good sideline action—it just can’t be ignored. Carven is like that:the neo-classic French house’s extra-special shift dresses, statement-making tops and ’60s minis inspire spirited fans who make the most of the brand’s fresh and refreshing vibe.

At the show on Thursday inside the Jardin des Tuileries, it was all about the shoes in the front row. We couldn’t help ourselves, we had to document them.
Don’t worry, we totally got shots of Carven’s vividly gorgeous spring collection, too.
And now, some of our favorite looks from the actual show—a labyrinth runway around geometric pink sand moonscapes.

As discussed last season, Olivia Kim is a lunch person. Today I suggested that I had been with her a time or two when we didn’t quite have time to stop for lunch and both she and SPACE buyer Raul Becerra looked at me like my hair was on fire.
“Oh no, we always stop for lunch,” she insisted, serious as a heart attack.

It’s hard to explain just how much of a luxury that actually is. Most days are back-to-back-to-back, stacked with shows and appointments, but Olivia and her team avoid skipping the midday meal by putting lunch on the schedule every day—as if it were as important as meeting with a top designer. Because it is.
Her go-to cuisine in Paris? Not croissants, not sidewalk cafe fare, but Asian. On Thursday we put a spin on it by stopping in at a vegan joint in the Bastille neighborhood. Olivia had vegan sushi and gave us her download on the best spots for Korean, Vietnamese and more in the City of Light.
Trusted all-time favorites:
–Takara, which Olivia says was the first real Japanese restaurant in Paris.
–Yen, for the homemade soba noodles
–Ravioli Nord Est, for dumplings
Best neighborhoods for…
–Vietnamese: any and all (okay, most) in the area of Rue Sainte-Anne
–Ramen: explore the Rue Saint Denis neighborhood; there are all kinds of them there
Special mention:
–Rose Bakery, which is not Asian, just a favorite lunch spot of Olivia’s. She gets the vegetarian plate and one of
their delicious “very nutty soy lattes.”

There was a lot to love at Isabel Marant‘s Thursday night show at the Louvre, but in the end it came down to this: wear-everyday shirtdresses, super-cool jumpsuits, showstopping one-shoulder looks, hot hot minidresses and really killer short-shorts.
All images: Indigital Images
We’ve compiled a best-in-show look from each of those categories, and Gigi Hadid leads the way—just like she did at the actual show. The quilted style that led the procession gets our vote in the shirtdress division; layered over jeans or on it’s own with a killer ankle boot? Perfection.
The jumpsuit: while we loved the florals in this category, you just can’t argue with the cool cream stripes and
utilitarian angle of this easy silhouette.
The off-the-shoulder top: If there’s one thing every runway show this month has included, it’s bare shoulders.
We love the way this one gets balanced out by a big, billowy sleeve.
The minidress: Isabel Marant’s outlook for spring is leg-centric. Go, stems, go!
The short-shorts: See what we mean? The high-waisted military vibe of these put them at the top of our list.
Note: Isabel Marant is not sold online; to find this collection in a store near you, please call 1.888.282.6060.

We were working ahead, interviewing rapper and fashion designer A$AP Ferg for a top-secret future Pop-In shop, when he mentioned Alexander Wang with an anecdote we thought you might like to read now.

What’s a prominent memory when you realized music and fashion go together?
The most potent memory—and there’s so many—is when Alexander Wang invited us to come to his party. He had Nicki Minaj and all these different people performing. And he knew all the words. But if you didn’t know Alexander Wang, and you just knew the brand—heard his name through his brand … us, coming from the hood, we’re like, “Man, he’s not listening to us. He’s probably listening to opera or some Michelangelo stuff.” Really, he’s listening to A$AP Ferg, A$AP Mob and Lil’ Kim. It’s inspired him to do his collections. That’s a very potent memory I have.
Another one is Nigo and Pharrell. What Nigo did for hip-hop, bridging fashion and music. He brought us BAPE. And after that, Billionaire Boys Club. Even putting us onto Japanese culture, how serious they are about creating garments—it opened up another world to me.
That’s cool. We did an Alexander Wang interview yesterday.
Wow. I did a campaign for him. He’s so dope.
He’s genuine, I felt.
That’s why it works for him. He’s a young dude just killing the game. He does what feels right to him. It’s like Marc Jacobs, when he brought Kanye and Pharrell to design with him: he understood that these are the new leaders, the new preachers to the churches—the fashion houses being the church. Or these concerts, the Garden is the new church; Madison Square Garden is like church when we’re on the stage. They understand how much power we have. Alexander Wang putting me in his clothes and in his campaign, that’s a milestone. Because we grew up desiring these clothes, wanting to buy them. I remember blowing my first check on an Alexander Wang sweatsuit. You know what I’m saying? I go from that to getting gifts from him because I worked with him on a project.

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2017 is up and running, and the style in the French fashion hub is unstoppable. Here are some of our favorite (shoppable!) looks from PFW so far—captured by our gimlet-eyed street-style reporter Kristin Yamada—that we plan on emulating posthaste.
One of Grazia‘s It girls, Italian style rebel Gilda Ambrosio aims to “constantly invent new rules” with her sartorial interpretations. This look is a perfect example of her lawless combinations. A frilly blouse with skinny red pants and crystal-embellished pumps in Hubba Bubba pink results in look to woo the modern romantic.

Blogger and fashion influencer Margaret Zhang always interprets the trends for the cool girl on her site, Shine by Three. Lucky for us less inspired (or lazy) cool girls, here she’s playing with wardrobe staples most of us already own. An bell-sleeve blouse under a simple slipdress creates an easy but tres chic fall outfit attuned to the season’s Victoriana craze.

Style star Maria Jernov is instantly recognizable at Fashion Week, not only because of her peach-colored tresses but also because of her unfussy fashion. This Danish girl loves flowing silhouettes and pajama pants (amen to that). Her hardware-heavy booties anchor this breezy midi dress and a cropped vest adds a menswear element.

Chriselle Lim is channeling Charles Baudelaire. Or Arthur Rimbaud. Or Yves Bonnefoy. Skinny leather pants in a bordeaux shade paired with a peasant blouse form an outfit fit for a flâneur French poet. Lim ups the femme fatale factor with a stiletto bootie and cat-eye glasses.
