The brand: Marc Jacobs
The history: When Marc Jacobs launched in the mid-’80s, the label was famous for giant sweaters that cool downtown girls wore like dresses, with tights and boots. By the ’90s, Kate Moss and Gisele were walking in Marc Jacobs fashion shows, and the brand’s oversized fuzzy coats and slinky color-block separates helped define the decade’s aesthetic. Today, Marc Jacobs is known for its witty, gritty, independent approach to luxury, as well as its popular scents like Daisy and Decadence. In 2014, it became the first luxury brand to cast its advertising campaign via hashtag (#castmemarc).
The designer: Marc Jacobs is an 11-time CFDA winner, making him essentially the Meryl Streep of fashion awards. His social media stories with friends like Courtney Love and Miley Cyrus have garnered him his own celebrity status; even his dog Neville is an Instagram star.
The show: “This collection is the reimagining of seasons past somewhere beyond the urban landscape of New York City,” Jacobs wrote in his notes. A remix of tropical prints, bugle bead dresses, and embellished track pants went through the empty, silent Park Avenue Armory, which had no show set and no music. Adwoa Aboah, Bella and Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner modeled, along with Kaia Gerber, who closed out the night in a beaded bright yellow evening gown with black gloves.
The f-row: An eclectic mix of cool kids, mega-stars and fashion royalty, including Nicki Minaj, Niki Taylor, Courtney Love, Hari Nef, Zosia Mamet, Emily Ratajkowski, Dianna Agron and Cindy Crawford. But our favorite sighting was Raf Simons, aka Mr. Calvin Klein.
The verdict: Beautiful, amazing, dynamic, all of it.
