Welcome to Fashion Bytes, a cheat sheet for your favorite runway designers. From style inspirations to behind-the-scenes scoops, here’s everything worth knowing at New York Fashion Week Spring 2018.

The brand: Michael Kors

The history: This famous American sportswear company started in 1981, and boasts a huge range of fans from Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton to Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj (who mentions the label in the lyrics to “Dance”). With sleek, cozy knitwear and updated classics like shrunken motorcycle jackets, Michael Kors makes versatile luxury staples for confident women.

The designer: Michael Kors began his career dressing windows in New York City; a few years later, he was dressing women in his in-demand creations. By 1997, he’d established himself as a top American designer, and was named creative director of Céline where—fun fact!—he created Reese Witherspoon’s famous pink suit in Legally Blonde. Kors is a famous TV personality, thanks to his years on Project Runway. He’s also a loyal supporter of God’s Love We Deliver, a charity bringing nutritious meals to the chronically ill.

The show: With a live performance by Sara Bareilles, this morning fashion show packed supermodels like Carolyn Murphy, Kate Upton and Joan Smalls on a runway built like a beach boardwalk. There were tie dye prints, sky blue knits and lots of sandals—including several pairs of flip flops. Rejoice!

The f-row: Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Catherine Zeta-Jones and her daughter Carys Douglas, 14, took in the show along with DJ Harley Viera-Newton and blogger Bryan Boy.

The verdict: From the boardwalk to the boardroom, these breezy summer clothes are vacation must-haves, but they’ll also make office meetings a much more glam experience.
