Welcome to Fashion Bytes, a cheat sheet for your favorite runway designers. From style inspirations to behind-the-scenes scoops, here’s everything worth knowing at London Fashion Week Spring 2018.

The brand: J.W.Anderson

The history: J.W.Anderson began as an accessories label in 2008, but quickly expanded into ready-to-wear in 2010. Known for smart, uniquely crafted looks, the label has fans as diverse as Elle Fanning and A$AP Rocky.

The designer: Jonathan Anderson grew up in Northern Ireland, then attended the London College of Fashion. Before he became a lauded name in fashion, he thought he might be an actor, worked as a costume designer, and even decorated windows for Prada. Eventually, he found his path to London Fashion Week and quickly got “next big thing” status from editors and buyers. After designing for VERSUS Versace in 2013, Anderson was recruited to Loewe as their new creative director. His elephant bag is one of our favorites.

The show: Anderson imported his own art collection onto the catwalk, and had models wear soft-stitched hiking boots and cool-toned maxi-dresses as they walked in a giant spiral around the audience. A series of flat-sequin dresses were party-ready without being disco driven, and several new bags got nods of approval from front row fashion editors.

The f-row: Chanel muse Lady Amanda Harlech sat next to Vogue‘s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour; Alexa Chung wore slim black pants and a blazer a few seats away.

The verdict: Anderson’s steam shows no signs of slowing down; the packed house was riveted by the thoughtful, nuanced collection with layered prints and lots of options for dressing with real purpose.
