Nordstrom Toronto: Model Shivani Persad Tells Us Where to Go Out in the City, Plus Our 360º Video

shivanipersad_toronto_feature

To celebrate the opening of our new store at Toronto Eaton Centre, we’ve been talking to some of the city’s residents while photographing them on the streets—and sometimes rooftops—of their stunning metro.

First up is all-around lovely lady, model and blogger Shivani Persad. This woman proves that true beauty isn’t just skin deep. On her blog, LIVE SHIV NOW, Shivani discusses the nuances of the modeling industry, diversity issues in entertainment and fashion, her personal struggle with anxiety, her travel reflections and, of course, fashion. All of these dimensions also made her the perfect subject of our new 360º video. You can watch that below, see behind-the-scenes images from our shoot and read Shivani’s tips for dressing up and going out in Toronto.

How long have you been modeling?

I’ve been modeling for six years now, but only full-time for about three because I was in university finishing up my degrees. The past three years have been so amazing and I’m so grateful.
If you weren’t doing your current job, what would you be doing?
I have degrees in political science and French, so I’d probably be doing some sort of activist work or political consulting.

Favourite article of clothing?
I have a favourite pair of jeans that I literally wear all the time. I think you can just never go wrong with a good pair of jeans. I’ve had so many that I’ve worn so much that they totally fall apart. I live in jeans and a tee.
Favourite article of clothing you only bust out on special occasions?
I definitely have a fancy dress or two. But my Schutz lace-up heels are my go-to piece for special events!

Favourite food in Toronto?
Oh, that’s a hard one! But probably Indian food. There are so many amazing Indian places and they’re so yummy! Particularly Paneer Tikka Masala—it’s a must-try!
Favourite drink?
I love a great glass of Malbec with a delicious meal, but otherwise orange juice is the way to my heart.

24 hours in Toronto: how do you spend your day?
This is really hard! There’s so much, I’d probably start off in Kensington Market (because I’d love to live there), shop on Queen Street, eat on King Street, check out the ROM (I’m a nerd like that) and end my day by the water or take the ferry to Toronto Island.

Nordstrom opens at the Toronto Eaton Centre on September 16. Tickets to the opening night gala, September 14, are available now.
