You can always count on Caroline Issa to be one of the most classically chic women on the street and in the front row, and you can always count on her for a precise yet spirited runway recap.

So that’s exactly what we did: we counted on her. Our ace street-style shooter, Kristin Yamada, caught her at the show—wearing the Nordstrom Signature pintuck floral-print dress she helped design—and then we got her download on what was inside.

THE THREAD: What mood did the invitation set? What was your first impression and what were you expecting?
Caroline: The concertina invite set the tone with the snake symbol front and center, obviously a part of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci DNA. A stage set, a garden of desire … I certainly wasn’t expecting the pink plush boudoir with mirrored tiling everywhere as the decor!

How did the venue set the mood?
It was interesting that they had so much haze—a sea of dry ice essentially. Everything was as if in a dream: the clothes, the models, the mood was dreamlike….
What was the first look that really resonated with you?
Some models were holding their long dresses up on both sides, and then others had their handbags nestled in the crook of their arms—it was very innocent, yet disarming and charming. The models also held fans, and I felt that their posture was regal yet cool. A typical Gucci mash-up!

Did the vibe seem to belong to any particular era?
It was an amalgam of places and periods—opium dens of Shanghai meeting New York ’70s disco clubs and the Court of Versailles.

If the looks were characters, what kind of literature would they be in? Romance, espionage, a thriller?
All of the above. This Gucci show was all about the magic realism of storytelling, and it touched on all themes!

Three words to describe the style:
Eccentric. Luscious. Beautiful.
Three real or fictional people you could see wearing the spring looks:
Marie Antoinette. Florence from Florence and the Machine. Me!

How to explain Alessandro’s can’t-stop, won’t-stop power?
What a magical vision he has brought into this world, full of detail and layers, and we all just have to keep collecting season after season.
