Jason Wu’s Spring 2017 collection was a saturated technicolor collage of foil and tulle, pleats and florals. To offset the boldly cheerful clothes at his show, Deborah Lippmann turned to a traditional clean, nude nail in a French manicure style with muted taupe at the tips.
“Powerful, bold pops of neon play out in Jason Wu’s exuberant Spring/Summer 2017 collection,” she explained. ” A nude nail balances this display of color, but to create cohesion, I took inspiration from the piping that can be found around the neckline and sleeves of some of the pieces, and fashioned the essence of a French manicure. My modern day version is a nude on nude monochromatic effect, making it subtle and chic,” Lippmann concluded.

How to get the nail look:
- Deborah contoured natural nails into a short, rounded shape using her Smooth Operator 4-way nail buffer.
- To prep the nail plate, she exfoliated then hydrated the cuticle using her signature cuticle remover and cuticle oil. She then cleansed the nails with 2-Second nail primer prior to base coat application to ensure all leftover debris was removed and the place was clean.
- For the base, Deborah applied a coat of Gel Lab Pro base coat.
- Deborah began nail lacquer application with one coat of Fashion, a not-so-typical taupe creme, at the tip of the nail mimicking a French manicure.
- After waiting 2 minutes to dry, Deborah applied one thing coat of Naked, a clean bare beige, over the entire nail.
- After waiting another 2 minutes to dry, one coat of Gel Lab Pro top coat was applied to seal the nails and prevent chipping. The Wait is Over Quick Dry Drops were added as a finishing touch to ensure faster drying time and a flawless finish.
- Hands and cuticles were massaged with Rich Girl SPF 25 hand cream and nourishing cuticle repair cream for complete hydration.
