“The inspiration for the collection was a calmer, more refined look at our beloved bookworm nerd,” said new-to-SPACE designer Steven Tai after his presentation.

The Vancouver, BC-born designer has an infinite affinity for girls who wear glasses but this season he pretty much literally took a page from their books.
See those charcoal-and-white cotton ruffles? And the curled, nonlinear edges?
“Proportions and silhouettes are worked into each look with ‘pages’ of fabrics zigzagged and sewn by hand,” Steven told us from the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, a London gallery. “Layers of cotton and silk are also sewn together to create a pagelike effect at the seams to create wearable books.”
And talk about a must-read.
Or maybe a page-turner: Steven says his girl is “someone who has embraced her childhood awkwardness and turned it into her strength. She is quirky, playful and confident.”
The brand, and the collection, is about embracing that inner quality and giving it a really good outfit to go face the day in—or maybe take over the world in.
What will Steven do on Friday night in London after this successful showing?
“Board games, PlayStation 4, Domino’s, a bubble bath and a good book!”
Takes a stylish bookworm to know one, huh?
