Nordstrom Fashion Blog: 10 Things that Happened at London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week Fall 2016 helped to mint a new generation of designers while reestablishing the influence and ingenuity of those established British brands. Burberry injected grunge notes and pixie dust into a punky fall collection, while Vivienne Westwood, the punk doyenne herself, showcased ladylike suits and dresses on models with smudged lipstick. Relative newcomers like Ashley Williams and Faustine Steinmetz exhibited the casual cool of the new guard.

All in all, it was colorful week, on and off the runway, with plenty of lavish fashion indicative of Britain’s illustrious sartorial history. Here’s why:

Shrimps designer Hannah Weiland was again a hit on and off the runway with her faux fur jackets inspired by her 91-year-old grandmother, who was a story herself this season.

2. Singer Jake Bugg was the live performer at Burberry’s show this fall. The young Brit’s temperamental strumming and disaffected folk songs fit the moody collection presented by the pouty and strutting models who circled him in Kensington Gardens.

3. Pernille Teisbaek ruled the street scene. She was everywhere and always lovely! The Danish style influencer was wielding her wardrobe voodoo this season, making her an inescapable target for the Fashion Week shutterbugs.

4. The Wild West was having a moment on the streets and on Mary Katrantzou’s runway. From cowboy boots to big buckles to fringe, rustic Americana may be the fashion accent making the biggest comeback.

Trainers were the preferred street-style shoe 7. Pretty or just practical, the style elite were loving puff jackets this winter in London, for fashion and weather reasons both. The pretty embroidered pink puffy was from Alexander McQueen’s collection.

It took place in a gymnasium with illustrated walls and dresses to rival Elsa’s in Frozen, so it should be of no surprise that the children that entered the top level of Roksanda Illincic’ show were adorably awed.

There’s been no doubt as to Sarah Burton’s skill and artistry. This season, like a seance conjuring the label’s founder, she pushed it to the dark side for dramatic effects.
