Tabitha Simmons is a busy mom, designer, stylist and fashion editor. Her fashion direction frequently appears in Vogue spreads, for which she’s dressed models Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Lily Aldridge. Safe to say, she knows a thing or two about what makes an outfit work. So it’s no surprise that Simmons’s eponymous shoe collection is just the thing to transform clothes into a full-blown look.
Inspired and adored by her stylish friends, Simmons is part of an elite fashion-feedback loop. Her best-selling Alexa pointed flat is named for none other than Alexa Chung. And Simmons’s designs have been spotted on style stalwarts like Kate Bosworth, Cara Delevingne and even Queen Bey.
We chatted with the British stylist/designer/force-of-nature about her influences and playfully chic designs.
You work with a lot of exotic leathers and materials. What are your favorites for Resort 2017?
I have completely fallen in love with satin for Resort. It’s such a big trend and I love how it dresses up denim.
I collaborated with a 10th-generation silk mill in England called Stephen Walters & Sons, who have been in business for over 300 years. Their silks have been used in the coronation coaches … and now on my shoes!
Which pair from this collection do you find yourself wearing the most?
I am obsessed with the Reyner at the moment—I can’t stop wearing them. The chunky heel makes them so easy to wear from day to night.
How would you describe your personal style and how does that translate to your designs?
I like to think my Britishness is evident in my style; there’s something about it that is Victorian and romantic, but modern at the same time. Vintage Victorian jackets and prints have been a perennial inspiration for my collections.
What makes a great pair of shoes?
I stand for 10 to 12 hours a day, so comfort is paramount. And style! I think that is why people wear our shoes time and time again. Season after season, the styles remain current.
What is the enduring appeal of the platform sandal?
Women love a platform because it is so comfortable and also gives you height.
Who has the best shoe game? Whose feet are you always watching?
There is no one in particular that I love watching, but I am always looking at what people have on their feet. You can tell a lot about a character by the shoes that they wear!
