Turns out, the shades that we hide behind when running errands or avoiding paparazzi (real or imagined) are also effective for standing out in a crowd. Case in point: this summer’s festival circuit. In that sea of youthful seraphim taking fashion risks, we found a number of surprising new frame styles.
Beyond the basic cat eye or aviator, sunglasses are getting increasingly playful with jewels, sweeping angles and tinted lenses. These aren’t simply utilitarian sun shields but rather statement pieces worn front and center.

Add a little sparkle to your frames—or a lot. This summer, whether dotted with Swarovski crystals or bursting with floral gems, bedazzled glasses will be throwing some shine in all directions.

Colorful Lenses
In addition to seeing the world through rose-colored glasses, try green, blue or yellow. Lenses are now as ornamental as they are technical.

Octagonal Frames
When the usual shapes just won’t suit you, pick up a polygon. This play on the standard circular outline lends a bit of an edge. Oversized and fashion-forward, these shades are a sophisticated way to look at things differently.

Shield Sunglasses
Fantastically futuristic without looking like novelty glasses, the new shield frames are a sleek and sophisticated summer accessory. The flattering angles suit most faces and come in a variety of shapes to appeal to all modern girls.

Crazy Angles
If you’ve got an edge, show it off. This summer, shades play with unconventional corners to create new styles. From dramatic cat eyes to exaggerated rhombuses, there are angular degrees for all the geometrically inclined.
