“Fashion, like life, is moving towards intersectionality,” says Nordstrom stylist Keara Matthiesen. “In general I see fashion moving more to being about individuality, and whatever self-expression really looks like for each person.

Incorporating a floral pattern or a traditionally feminine color is an easy and pretty much normalized way to for men to gender bend. Taking it one step further is wearing floral patterns or pantone fem color head to toe.
For guys this shop is a great parlay into testing the waters of feminine dressing. Begin the J Koo pieces where ruffle and fishnet elements—which are traditionally feminine—are used in garments that are masculine in shape. Sheer elements are another way to easily incorporate a traditionally more feminine fabrics into men’s wardrobess.
Cuts and tailoring are changing in men’s apparel, too; some designers are incorporating elements of more feminine silhouettes. It’s an alternate way to walk the line. Higher waist lines and wider legs were possible sneak peeks into the future in the Spike Jones movie Her, and then more recently they actually showed up in collections from Thom Brown and Public School.
For women, I think one of the coolest ways to flex the gender divide is wearing track pants, for example, with a bodysuit showing—or a structured carpenter pant with a structured jacket and a bra top or a peek of exposed stomach. The Hyein Seo trucker pants are the best KFASHION example carpenter pants; pairing these with a simple tank or crop top is a great way to try it.
The Kuho slacks are on the top of my list; the slit in the bottom adds a sexy element to a masculine silhouette and you can easily wear them with a blouse to work. If you’re more or a skirts-and-dresses girl, a mixed-in sport top is an extremely interesting and cool way to start crossing the line. You can always add a fem earring or shoe or a great lip color to really put the look together, and bring the vibe back toward the girly vibe a little.
For most men, adding feminine wardrobe elements is a radical idea but with more athletes and even rappers stepping into the gender bending fashion game there are no limits to men’s fashion like their used to be.
Young Thug wearing the Alessandro Trincone dress on the cover of the Jeffery album was a huge moment and display of how far we have come in changing gender paradigms around dressing. Russell Westbrook is also such a great example of a very masculine athlete who is having fun with fashion and I don’t even think he really sees it as gender bending from his all pink ensembles to him wearing a Fear of God kilt over pants they’re bold statements that the rules of fashion even in urban pop culture have changed. Ashton Sanders is my personal style icon of the moment and the shoot he did for wonderland styled by Zara Mirkin is this amazing look at how men can dress however they want and that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re anything other than fashionable. He is wearing fishnets, earrings, short leather shorts, heeled Balenciaga boots but always paired back to a masculine pant or a bucket hat and there is a swagger about him he calls it a ‘wokeness’ that just makes him a great fashion icon that is breaking both art and fashion binaries. Aston’s example maybe a sign that the next generation will be more intersectional in both fashion and in culture.
