The Bold and the Beautiful Lips by NARS at Novis | Backstage Beauty

There’s the common adage that you know you’ve made it when you can only go by one name. Dropping your surname signifies that your celebrity has reached household status.

Depending on the zip code (but definitely if it starts with a 9 and a 0), NARS international lead makeup artist Uzo has achieved that level of fame. Uzo chisels cheekbones on Kim (Kardashian) with a beauty blender, she gives Kirsten (Dunst) a rosy glow with highlighter, and she has prepped models as super as Naomi (Campbell). So catching up with her backstage as she groomed the lovelies before the Novis show was a real delight, especially when we saw berry-colored pouts she was painting on the models.

Uzo told us that the matte crimson or satiny magenta lips–like pop art puckers–were the real stars of this look. These high-impact mouths were set off by very polished skin and a refined smokey eye. The bold florals, plaids and color-blocking of the Novis collection inspired Uzo’s equally arresting makeup.

1. The matte crimson red lip was created by using Porquerolles Precision lip liner (new for Fall ’17), but you can get this look now by using NARS Audacious lipstick in Annabella.

2. The second lip look was magenta, created by using Sainte-Maxine Precision lip liner (new for Fall ’17). For now try either the Janet or the Stefania Audacious lipstick.

3. For both looks the subtle smokey eye was created by using the Madrague duo eyeshadow in combination with Sophia single eyeshadow, Mambo eyeliner pencil and Audacious mascara.

4. The complexion was perfected with NARS Sheer Glow foundation, Copacabana illuminator and Soft Velvet loose powder.

5. Uzo then finished with a pretty pop of cheek color in Blissful blush (new for Fall ’17, but for now try Seduction blush).
