Your Summer Makeup Bag According to Pantone

Your Summer Makeup Bag According to Pantone post image

Spring Fashion Week has long since ended, but we’re still thinking about the cheery pastels and vivacious yellows that we saw on (and off) the runways of New York, London, Milan and Paris. As we poured over Pantone Color Institute’s list of on-trend hues for the spring-summer fashion season, we wondered, how can we incorporate these colors into our beauty too?

Let Pantone’s spring-summer color palette—with soft pinks, punchy reds and cool-toned violets—inspire you to change up your makeup look for the season. Ahead, the lipsticks, eye pencils and highlighters we’re adding to our cosmetics bags for the upcoming warm months.

Chantecaille The Year of the Dog highlighter

ALMOST MAUVE

The faintest of the season’s pastels, this romantic, petal-like hue is mild and exceptionally springy, and makes for the perfect pearlescent highlight. Chantecaille’s limited edition Year of the Dog pressed highlighter mimics this violet-rose luminosity with just a dusting on the high points of the complexion: the tops of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, on the cupid’s bow and in the inner corner of the eyes.

Red Carpet Manicure LED nail gel polish in Love Those Baby Blues

LITTLE BOY BLUE

This genderless and invigorating hue has gained new relevancy thanks to the upcoming royal wedding this May. The late Princess Diana, who was particularly fond of blue, is said to have inspired this reimagined periwinkle color, which is the perfect manicure shade: happy, bright and highly wearable. Paint on two coats of Red Carpet Manicure’s Love Those Baby Blues and accessorize with some dainty gold rings—the color combination is made for a summer on the beach.

Sisley Paris Phyto-Eye twist all-in-one eyeshadow, pencil & eyeliner in Emerald

ARCADIA

Green’s popularity continues on the rise for the spring and summer seasons with this mermaid-like jade. The mesmerizing emerald of Sisley Paris’s stick eyeshadow reflects the light with every gaze, or blink of the eye.

NARS The Multiple stick in Orgasm

BLOOMING DAHLIA

This summer’s orange marries the vibrancy of the red-hot season with the muted appeal of the ever-popular Millennial Pink to create Blooming Dahlia. This light coral color is the exact shade of NARS’s cult favorite Orgasm blush, which is now available in a variety of formulas: as a pressed powder (the original), a lipstick, primer, as a liquid blush and even a nail polish.

JINsoon Nail Polish in Charme

MEADOWLARK

Speaking of Millennial Pink, the word is that bold and lively Gen-Z Yellow is poised to replace it as the color of the generation. This bright yellow exudes joy and spontaneity—feelings appropriately likened to the spring and summer seasons—and looks great with a tan. Use JINsoon’s Charme for a high-impact manicure that complements your summer glow.

MAC lipstick in Lady Danger

CHERRY TOMATO

This orange-red is impossible to ignore, especially when worn on the lips. Lucky for us, this color is the exact poppy color of our favorite summertime red, MAC’s Lady Danger. Not made to be subtle, this bold lip color will fill you with energy and spice up your summer look—just make sure to first blot away excess.

Laura Mercier Kohl eye pencil in Black Violet

ULTRA VIOLET

This blue-toned violet is a modern interpretation of your everyday purple. We love this color on everyone, but it looks especially cool on brown eyes—the plum tone brings out the undertones of gold and green that are often missed in darker irises. Laura Mercier’s Black Violet eye pencil is the perfect color dupe (and does not appear black as the name implies). Line the top lid, close to the lashes, with the purple pencil before using your finger to gentle diffuse the color. Pro tip: this gentle wash of bluish purple is striking against a Chili Oil lip (below).

Bobbi Brown Art stick in Cassis

CHILI OIL

While this brown-toned red seems better suited to the fall-winter, we recognize the versatility of this color as it is meant to offset bright neons and whispers of pastel. And with the return of the ’90s, we’re always keeping our eyes peeled for a new take on the supermodel brown lipstick trend. Bobbi Brown’s Cassis is a very similar red-brown, making it the perfect statement lip to wear on warm summer evenings.

Stila Shimmer & Glow liquid eyeshadow in Boheme

PINK LAVENDER

Like Almost Mauve and Blooming Dahlia, this trending pink lavender is among the quieter of the “it” colors. We like this shade with a metallic twist—the foil effect amplifies the cool, gentle lilac. Stila’s liquid eyeshadow in Boheme is the perfect color match and looks wet when painted on the lid and is the ideal texture for the summer season.

By Terry Mascara Terrybly in Moka Brown

EMPERADOR

This rich brown takes us back to earth as the organic shade that balances the season’s more vivacious colors. As temperatures rise and we find ourselves applying less and less makeup, jet-black lashes start to feel out of place. We prefer the more natural look that By Terry’s brown mascara offers, especially during daytime hours.

Christian Louboutin Oeil Velours velvet eye definer in Hot Chick

LIME PUNCH

Upon first glance, this blazing hot neon doesn’t seem like the most wearable makeup color, but the spring-summer catwalks would beg to differ. Neon liner was all the rage at shows like Prada, Dior and Jeremy Scott, where the blinding hue was used sparingly to line the eyes. To get the look, use a freshly sharpened Christian Louboutin’s Hot Chick eye pencil.

Dior Addict Lacquer stick in Vivid Purple

SPRING CROCUS

This flirtatious, botanical-inspired fuchsia looks incredible on the lips. Swipe on Dior’s lip glow in Vivid Purple before heading into the office. Prepare for a lot of compliments.
