New York Fashion Week has come and gone in a delightful whirl of excitement—and exuberant clothes. The color palette was a veritable rainbow. Everywhere, I looked there was another display of bold colors, patterns, ruffles, delicate fabrics and loads of floral dresses.
Silk and velvet were the major textile themes on feminine silhouettes, but denim ruled the streets. Texture was important; patent leather, corduroy and shearling all making interesting appearances. The embellished shirt continues to evolve and gain popularity, but the power suit leads for the most compelling style staple for fall.
Suffice to say that it was a gorgeous and inspiring week for style. Ahead, you’ll find the the street-style stars (and their Instagram accounts) who are challenging me to break free of my minimalist dress code.
Annabelle and Celine’s complementary looks are bold and chic. Power suits and trench coats are must haves for the season, and the relaxed fits add an ease to the looks. Pink continues to dominate, particularly the brighter shades.
Taylor is another street style superstar, and I am obsessed with her pants in this ensemble. The denim mix is so unusual and a great nod to the casualization of fashion. And a silk top, buttoned loosely and tucked into the jeans, is the very definition of sexy.
Boudoir dressing continues, and I am all about it. Vanessa’s silky, butter slip dress is gorgeous. Full stop. I love the ruffles and tie straps, as well as the floaty hem. It’s got a retro-glam appeal, but Vanessa’s modern styling adds edge.
Aimee’s bubblegum two-piece is another stunner. Sneakers and suits are a winning combination (and seriously trending), but it’s the blazer worn without a shirt that makes the look so alluring. Granted, it works better at Fashion Week than in the office.
Veronika’s bright, puff-sleeved number is a huge hit in NYC, and has a nostalgic ’80s flair. I love her unique styling. Call me a Heilbrunner fangirl, but I really do think she is one of the coolest women in the game.
Sarah’s look is ultra feminine, with a touch of western prairie revival. The length is great, as are the full cuffs and tall, tied collar. The basket bag is a must have in NYC, and I love this little picnic-inspired piece.
Denim is still a hugely popular textile, and I am thrilled to watch its evolution. From utilitarian roots to a premium staple, denim is a must-have and can be translated in a variety of ways. Caroline’s denim pants are wild and such a great statement piece.
Arielle
The oversized denim jacket is having a seriously hot moment. The distressed elements add some edge, while the contrast stitching feels a bit vintage. Arielle’s pearl-embellished track pants are a brilliant addition to her downtown sporty look.
Caroline is an icon in the fashion world. She’s always true to her personal aesthetic and bends trends to her will. A simple tee shirt gets the Caroline treatment when paired with amazing leather trousers. Bold accessories complete the look.
These London ladies are the best—always great style and attitudes. Pandora’s white dress is ticking a lot of trend boxes: full sleeves, modest neckline, long skirt and corsetry boning. I’m loving her contemporary accessories, too! Kate is mixing the modesty trend with bold stripes and sport slides, which are uber-popular right now.
Shiona is serving up a really exceptional look. There’s a hint of the ’70s here, thanks to the color palette, but the structure of the power suit makes it current and exciting and absolutely stunning. I’m stealing this look for sure!
The Italians know how to dress–and Eleonora is no exception. I love monochromatic dressing, especially this modern 70s silhouette. Eleonora’s bold accessories add some unexpected texture and pattern to the look. I’m so looking forward to what Eleonora has in store for us in Milan.
Clearly, I have a style crush on Vanessa—she has been killing it this week in New York. And speaking of suiting, this slightly oversized silk set is to die for. I love Vanessa’s contrast styling with the red details.
Jessie is such a fun-loving person, and it’s echoed by her style. It can be tough for a petite woman to pull off volume and pattern, but I really love this look on Jess. The color is so vibrant. and the metallic pleated skirt adds even more visual play. The embellished bag and loafer slides take this modern look to the next level.
Megan is an amazing stylist. I admit to style stalking her at Fashion Week. She always looks like she’s having fun with fashion and doesn’t seem to take it too seriously. The skatecore vibe has been steadily evolving, and Megan’s look perfectly demonstrates how to dress up the casual theme. A graphic tee and simple skate shoes add a downtown edge to her draped silk skirt and chic bag. Plus, she very recently welcomed a new baby and any mom of a newborn who can pull together such a cool look is a champ in my book.
The ultra-feminine floral dress is having an important fashion moment. It’s one of the major themes at NYFW, and is utterly beautiful in all iterations. Rebecca’s take is fun and flirty, but casual thanks to her denim layer. The bold red and delicate flowery pattern is a sweet statement. I’m not normally a floral type of girl, but I am definitely going to branch out this season.
