The brand: Roksanda
The history: Known for its twist on teatime elegance, this London label is famous for its trumpet-sleeve dresses and shiny silk textures. Since debuting as part of Topshop’s new designer showcase in 2005, the brand has been a London Fasion Week darling with fans like Kate Middleton, Kate Hudson and Cate Blanchett.
The designer: Serbian-born Roksanda Illincic originally studied architecture, but quickly found her footing with fabrics instead. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in the early aughts, and has remained in London ever since. In 2012, she launched a series of children’s outfits inspired by her young daughter Efimia, now 6.
The show: Held outside at the Serpentine Gallery, the runway was framed by artist Francis Kéré’s garden sculptures, and dotted with huge blankets for chilly front-row guests. The collection embraced long, wind-catching shapes and notice-me colors like magenta and cobalt blue, with palm-sized floral appliques on the finale dresses, and silk blouses with fluted bell sleeves that might just be the next big trend.
The f-row: Olivia Palermo and Alice Naylor-Leyland (aka Mrs. Alice) braved the rainy morning, along with editors from every major magazine.
The verdict: Who said looking adult has to be boring? Illincic proves bright hues and big flowers are for capable, confident women around the globe.
