The brand: Fenty x Puma
The history: In 2015, Rihanna created her first sneaker with Puma; it sold out in three hours. The success led to an entire line of clothes and footwear, including the famously popular Creeper Sneakers. For the past few years, Fenty x Puma has shown in Paris and gained fans like Cara Delevingne, Joe Jonas and Salma Hayek. This Fashion Week marks their return to where it all started: New York City.
The designer: Born Robyn Fenty, Rihanna moved from Barbados to the US after Jay-Z signed her to Def Jam Records. She’s been a music and fashion icon ever since.
The show: With huge mountains of pink sparkling sand, the setting was either “strawberry beach” or “girl band on the moon.” Either way, it was a surreal backdrop for BMX bikers, supermodels like Adriana Lima, and Rihanna herself, who took her runway bow while riding a motorcycle. The clothes were splashy takes on ‘80s beachwear: high-cut one piece swimsuits, metallic gym bags and wetsuits stamped with yin-yang signs. And if you love the Fenty Creepers, get ready: this runway had them in tropical fruit flavors like mango and grapefruit.
The f-row: Ashley Graham, Cardi B, Diplo and even Whoopi Goldberg were on hand to celebrate the pop legend’s latest line.
The verdict: If you like the style vibes of surfers, skaters, and ‘80s swimsuit bombshells, you will cry for this collection. If you love bright sneakers and funky slides, you might just lose your mind when it hits our stores.
