Diane von Furstenberg flipped the script so completely with her Valentine’s Day presentation of Fall 2016 that you might have momentarily forgotten that it was all really about the clothes. For the 90 minutes or so that the Meatpacking District—her headquarters and flagship served as venue—and all of the digital world was swept up in two floors of mini vignettes, champagne and live streams, star-studded SnapChats, Instagram antics and Kendall and Gigi selfies, it sort of felt like one big huge party.
Yes, she ditched the runway and created a media sensation around her mini soundstage set-ups (each with a themed subset of the collection), but it really was about those tie-neck blouses, wide-leg pants and thigh-slit skirts. Because what we know about DVF is that she’s living, breathing proof that the clothes make the woman.
But the videos do make the party.
