Last Looks: Yesterday’s Runway at Roberto Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli Fall 2016 Milan Fashion Week

That whole ’70s mentality is probably best personified by Roberto Cavalli‘s Peter Dundas, whose shaggy curls and omnipresent sunglasses serve his retro vibe. He channeled a similar ‘70s rock vibe last spring, but returned this fall with a darker and more decadent version.

Referencing Aubrey Beardsley’s bohemian artwork, Dundas presented opulent gypsy wears in rich hues and luxe fabrics. There were bellbottoms, and embroidered jeans, and velvet and fur, but Dundas injected an underlying Art Nouveau influence and a grittier take on the throwback trend. Double-layered jackets balanced out bare buttoned-down chests. Heavily embellished and fringed sweater dresses paired with slinky lamé scarfs and long velvet toppers. A fully-tiered mustard yellow frock swirled down the runway before the sequined and lace bare-all gowns closed the show.
