Quickly, before we begin, can you tell us why good makeup brushes are so important and how you went about designing your own brushes?
Makeup is a science and an art, which means it requires the proper instruments to do it right. The same product can give you an entirely different result, all with a change of a brush—so your choice of brush truly determines the look you achieve.
I began creating my own dream tools by reshaping paintbrushes I bought at the art store. I snipped them into intuitive shapes that would make the desired application easy and dependable. When I took the prototypes to the best manufacturer, we picked the highest-quality cruelty-free hair—natural or synthetic—that would be ideal for every purpose, and packed each head to its ideal density: longer, looser hairs for softer washes of color and shorter, more densely packed hairs for more intense effects.
Let’s talk about each brush in the set. For starters, the #40 Medium Laydown Brush.
It’s designed for the placement and blending of concealers, creams, powders and liquids onto the eyes and face. To use, gently press the side into your cream or powder and then onto the area. Use the dome tip to get right along the lash line or into curved areas.

The #42 Flat-Top Crease Brush.
This brush is designed to deliver a roundly shaped contour into the crease of the eye and to press color directly onto the eyelid. To use, dip the level head gently into your eye color. Transfer color to the eye and gently stamp the brush head-down as you go.
The #6 Deep Eye Contour Brush.
This brush delivers intense contour deep into the crease of the eye. Gently dip the densely packed head into your eye color and sweep the brush into the crease.
The Soft Eye Lining and Brow Brush.
Its purpose is to create soft definition along the lash line and into the crease of the eye. You can also use it to apply soft brow color. To use, gently press and wiggle the brush into the makeup color, then walk it along the lash line or in sparse areas of your brow.

The Tight Eye Lining Brush.
Use it for the coveted tight-lined look by precisely placing cream or powder eyeshadow into the roots of lashes. Gently twist the tip into powder eyeshadow or definer and then wiggle the brush into the roots of your lashes.
The Covered Foundation Brush.
You can use this brush to get seamless, buildable coverage with any texture of foundation. To use, gently press the side of the brush head into your foundation and transfer the product to your face, sweeping outward where coverage is needed.

The Retractable Powder/Face Color Brush.
This brush is great for powders, blush and bronzer application. Just twist the brush gently into powder and apply it to the desired area in a circular motion.

The Covered Lip Brush.
Use this brush to apply your lip color and shape your lips with the utmost precision. Gently press the side of the brush into your lip color, then transfer color to lips using the point of the brush to trace and shape the lip line.
