Two huge moments in Nordstrom history just happened today, April 12: One, we opened our first ever Nordstrom store in the fashion capitol of NYC! And two, it’s our first store dedicated entirely to menswear! (Double exclamations!!) You’ll find three floors full of duds for dudes (including a Nike shop, a tech bar, a Levi’s alteration station and more) at 235 West 57th Street in Manhattan, with a full bar overlooking Columbus Circle next to Central Park. Check us out.
There was and still is a Nordstrom Rack at Union Square. But until now there had been no Nordstrom-proper store in the city. The opening party happened Tuesday—Vogue has the story—now we’re officially open for business.
Highlights of the store include our street-level Comme des Garçons shop, which features the largest selection outside the famed Japanese fashion brand’s own stores, designed and curated by our own Olivia Kim, VP of Creative Projects. Olivia selected pieces from all six of CdG’s menswear labels. Also under the CdG umbrella: exclusive pieces by Russian streetwear designer Gosha Rubchinskiy.
Olivia commissioned designer Marc Hundley to design the CdG space, with details from NYC bus terminals, phone booths, mailboxes, trash cans and playgrounds.
Around the corner are four designer boutiques: Calvin Klein, Balenciaga, Dior and Valentino. Also in this area: Givenchy, Moncler, Lemaire, Neil Barrett, Deveaux, Ovadia and Sons, Death to Tennis, Norse Projects, Kenzo, Stone Island and more.
In the sportier area of the store we’re carrying Champion reverse weave and a whole rainbow of adidas tracksuits, and downstairs, a 360-degree selection from Levi’s brands: Levi’s Premium, Premium Red Tab, Levi’s Made & Crafted, Levi’s Vintage Clothing and Levi’s Authorized Vintage. We also have a Levi’s tailor shop making alterations on the spot.
Downstairs in our shoe department, you’ll find we’re the only retailer in New York City to offer a Christian Louboutin men’s shoe shop. Our selection includes dress shoes and sneakers, available with or without Swarovski crystals.
Our Nike men’s shop-in-shop features footwear and apparel collections that spotlight Nike’s most influential designers, athletes and influencers.
In other shoe news, we have exclusive Timberland boots inspired by NYC punk rock from the 1980s; we’ll have quarterly exclusives from Cole Haan, and exclusives every two months from Magnanni; and we are the only retail partner for Brooklyn sneaker brand GREATS, whose exclusive collaboration with Nick Wooster is slated for late June.
Our sunglass shop features styles from Gucci, L.G.R., Moscot, Mykita, Ray-Ban, Salt, Tom Ford and Vuarnet. Some are available online, while others are exclusively stocked in the NYC store. But all are superb candidates for that crucial everyday wardrobe essential.
Our designer accessories area includes Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Dior and Givenchy, as well as items you can personalize by Prada and Loewe. We also offer accessories from Loom, MCM, Herschel Supply Co., Common Projects, Filson and more.
Our tech area offers commuter headphones, earbuds and more—everything you need for transit, whether by subway, bus, bike, car or foot—from Sonos, Bose, Master & Dynamic and B&O Play, as well as speakers and connected home options.
To keep your skin primed and protected, our grooming area includes exclusive collections from Ted Baker and the U.S. launch of Murdock London; as well as cult-favorite fragrance house Le Labo; exclusive products from Jack Black, Kiehls and Saturdays New York; and new products from Proraso.
And our suiting section is not to be sniffed at! Fun fact: We employ the largest network of tailors in North America, with more than 1,300. Our NYC men’s store has 16 individuals offering services like express alterations and one-hour plain-bottom pant hems.
Exciting developments in the world of suiting include Eton shirts’ Endless Aisle, a scrolling screen of customizable shirts, built and mailed to you in six weeks. More technology: Samuelsohn’s Custom Suit Visualizer, a six-foot screen where you can see a fabric swatch rendered as a full, customizable garment. Among our selections from many fine brands, you can shop the Nordstrom-exclusive Strong Suit by Ilaria Urbinati. This special collaboration between celebrity stylist Ilaria Urbinati and Strong Suit is inspired by the 1970s, and features items her famous clientele prefers, like unstructured jackets.
The last thing you should know is that like New York City, we will not sleep. We offer a 24/7 service on store pick-ups—shop Nordstrom.com and come get your item in about two hours—and for $20, we’ll deliver your purchase anywhere in the city in under three hours. We also have 24/7 express services for sudden alterations, lost luggage, items that went unpacked or that last-minute suit for an important meeting.
The store is great. We’re super excited and could talk your ear off about it. But you have to come in and see it for yourself. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
