Gifted Giver: Dancer and Musician Infinite Coles | Pop-In@Nordstrom x Opening Ceremony

For the second season in a row, we’re counting down the crucial pre-Christmas shopping days with a series called Gifted Givers, in which friends old and new share their thoughts on stylishly spirited giving and receiving. New this year: the Pop-In@Nordstrom x Opening Ceremony Holiday Shop edition.

The most mesmerizing short film we watched in 2015 was Gang directed by Clayton Vomero. It follows vogue dancers through a day in NYC as they move like liquid and bond over life’s travails. If you have not seen it, set aside 17 minutes.

Infinite Coles co-starred and has been on our minds since. He’s the son of Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah–which must be a trip–but very much doing his own thing, making inroads in dance, music and fashion: he popped up recently on the runway as a model for the brand Gypsy Sport.

Infinite can dance. Infinite can sing–expect music this coming year on XL Records, the same label as Adele. And Infinite has the right attitude about gifting. It’s all about considering the giftee.

The Thread: What stands out as the best gift you’ve ever given?

Getting my friends backstage passes to a Wu-Tang concert. They were living for the GAWDSS that day.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

Well, not all gifts are tangible. So I would have to say the best gift I’ve ever received was the creative opportunities that came with the film Gang. Since the film was released I was flown out twice to London to do other work, an right now I am currently working with XL Recordings doing music and it’s just a beautiful feeling.

Do you have a holiday shopping strategy? Do you make plans and spread sheets, or fly by the seat of your pants at the last possible minute?

Honestly I’m a last minute shopper. I do a lot of procrastinating but whatever. Everyone still gets their gifts and it’s the thought that counts,

What is “the perfect gift,” anyway? What makes for the ultimate in giving or receiving?

The perfect gift for me would be anything that has sentimental thought and came from a genuine place in the heart. The fact that you thought about me is everything.

What would you give your BFF?

I would give my BFF a bottle of their favorite wine.

What more can you share about your project with XL?

I’m not sure if I can share a lot but XL is working on a label album featuring many different artist including myself . Also I am working on my own EP. The songs also feature Mela Murder, who is also a cast member in Gang. I would say near the end of next year some songs should be released. Possibly sooner. My sound is I would say R&B mixed with vogue. I love all types of music but vogue is my style of dance and another way for me to express myself. I grew up listening to a lot of soul music which sparked a connection with me and that genre.
