Backstage Beauty: M·A·C’s Fashion Week Recap

M·A·C shares the trade secrets and products behind the looks they designed for the runways at Fashion Week.

At Rolando Santana, Director of Makeup Artistry Romero Jennings was inspired by the idea of a glowing, daytime smoky eye. Using eyeshadow creams, he created a satiny lavender shade that swept over the upper eyelid and wrapped around the outside corner of the eye to the lower eyelid. Vanilla Pigment was the star product for the skin. He accented cheekbones by buffing the product to reveal its pearl finish.

Karolyn Pho was inspired by organic textures and colors and wanted her models to look angelic and ethereal. Our focus was highlight and contour with M·A·C Mineralize Skinfinish to bring out the shape of the face and add a unique, broken liner from Liquidlast Liner in “Point Black,” which rested on the outside corner of the eye. Vanilla Pigment soared over the cheekbones and chin to add reflection to a nude face.

At The Blonds, we turned up the reflective textures to full blast. Makeup Artist Kabuki created the most flirtatious texture by pairing shiny gold and velvet black into one, kitty-kat liner. The star products were ‘Point Black’ in Liquidlast Liner and ‘Pure Show’ in Super Slick Liner. We added a subtle sheen to the cheekbone with ‘Melon’ Pigment and finished the look by overdrawing the lips with ‘Whirl’ Lip Pencil for maximum sensuality.

Juan Carlos Obando wanted his models to look like they were “wild, safari girls in the city.” Key Artist Serge Hodonou created a lush, hydrated skin by using Face and Body Foundation and Mineralize Charged Water Face and Body Lotion. We enhanced the redness around the models eyes using a scant amount of ‘Costa Riche’ Eye Kohl and reduced the intensity by buffing with a #239 Brush. Serge finished by adding the most expensive looking shine to the eyes with Eye Gloss in ‘Medoc’ and ‘Pearl Varnish.’ This gave the models a high-tech bronze with an effortless wearability.
