Bonjour! The final week of fashion month kicked off in the City of Light yesterday with a lively show from Dries Van Noten.
The esteemed designer, who hails from the small, but ridiculously stylish city of Antwerp, Belgium, presented a engaging collection of patterned pieces, often mixing boldly contrasting motifs—like a brocade sun design, disco sparkles and satiny multi-colored stripes—in a single look.
Whereas that kind of print mixing might seem chaotic in anyone else’s hands, Van Noten transformed it into an optimistic, almost giddy aesthetic that was prevalent in every look that came down the runway.
And what a runway it was! It’s tough to be innovative season after season, but Van Noten captured everyone’s attention with a lengthy catwalk carpeted in faux mosses—like Mother Nature’s own spring collection. While something that tactile could have overshadowed the clothing, it actually enhanced beauty of looks like this stunning brocade coat and knit dress with feather-like fabric trim.
For the finale, models abandoned their usual catwalk stomp and instead lounged on the soft runway while birdsong played over the P.A., adding a forest nymph finish to the exciting presentation.
