How to be at once Edwardian and new wave, floral and punk rock? How to balance delicacy and tough-as-nails grit? How, exactly, to rock a jabot neckline and neck-to-shin lace?

If these are the questions that keep you up at night—and they should, because they feel really relevant to spring ’16—take a spin through the looks offered by Yigal Azrouël at NYFW center stage on Friday.
As Wikipedia is happy to tell you, a jabot neckline is a thing that consists of “lace or other fabric falling from the throat, suspended from or attached to a neckband or collar; or simply pinned at the throat.” We imagine Azrouël would have had a nicer way of putting it but what’s matters most is that he showed it. A fair bit of it.
These frame-like panels are to be expected of the architecture-influenced Azrouël; yet in his hands—at least this time around—they feel less like structure and more like … a dream about structure. The mere soft, ruffled, lacey idea of structure.
